Coins weighing 252 tonnes return to circulation during Coin Week
During the spring Coin Week that took place in April 2026, people brought two tonnes more coins than they did last time. Coins returned to circulation numbered 55 million, amounting to nearly ₽252 million, which is a ₽7 million increase vs last autumn.
People exchanged coins not only at banks and stores, but also at the ticket offices of certain suburban railway stations. Most of the coins returned – 86.7% – were ruble coins of different denominations, with the rest 13.3% accounted for by kopecks.
As a reminder, certain points continue accepting coins for exchange even after the Coin Week ends. Participants’ addresses and acceptance terms are available on the website монетнаянеделя.рф.
Please note that there is no need to wait for a special occasion to return coins to circulation, as they can be used in daily transactions.
