On 29 April 2022, the Bank of Russia issues commemorative coins Peter the Great — the 350th Anniversary of his Birth of the series Historical Events:

— a 3-ruble silver coin,

— a 100-ruble silver coin,

— a 10,000-ruble gold coin.

Peter the Great is probably the most famous Russian emperor. There are numerous works of literature, painting, sculpture, and cinema dedicated to him. His achievements were also embodied in small sculpture, including commemorative coins praising his reforms. Around fifty such coins were issued over the last 30 years. Coins timed to the 350th anniversary of the Russian tsar are yet another tribute to the accomplishments of the great reformer who changed the course of Russian history.

The silver coins in the denomination of 3 rubles (fine metal content 31.1 g, fineness 925/1,000) and 100 rubles (fine metal content 1,000.0 g, fineness 925/1,000) have a round shape and are 39.0 mm and 100.0 mm in diameter, respectively. The gold coin in the denomination of 10,000 rubles (fine metal content 1,000.0 g, fineness 999/1,000) has a round shape and is 100.0 mm in diameter.

The obverse and the reverse of the coins have a relief rim along the circumference.

The obverse of the coins bears a relief image of the National Coat of Arms of the Russian Federation and inscriptions: ‘РОССИЙСКАЯ ФЕДЕРАЦИЯ’ (RUSSIAN FEDERATION), ‘БАНК РОССИИ’ (BANK OF RUSSIA), the denomination of the coins ‘3 РУБЛЯ’ (3 RUBLES), ‘100 РУБЛЕЙ’ (100 RUBLES), ‘10 000 РУБЛЕЙ’ (10,000 RUBLES), the year of issue ‘2022 г.’ (2022), the chemical symbol of the metal according to Mendeleev’s Periodic Table of Elements, fineness, the St Petersburg Mint trademark, and fine metal content. The obverse of the coin in the denomination of 10,000 rubles bears an indication of the serial number of the coin and the sign ‘№’ (No.) under the inscription with the fine metal content.

 

 

 

 

 

The reverse:

 

— of the 3-ruble silver coin (Catalogue No. 5111-0459) features relief images of the portrait of Peter the Great in profile, the Peter and Paul Fortress, ships sailing the Neva River, and a ribbon with the inscription ‘САНКТ-ПЕТЕРБУРГ’ (SAINT PETERSBURG), as well as a relief of one of the first images of the coat of arms of St Petersburg with a coloured coating; at the bottom, along the circumference, there is a relief inscription: ‘ПЕТР I • ПРЕОБРАЗОВАТЕЛЬ’ (PETER I • THE REFORMER).

 

The edge of the coin is corrugated.

 

The coin is minted in proof quality.

The mintage of the coin is 5.0 thousand pcs;

— of the 100-ruble silver coin (Catalogue No. 5117-0066) features relief images of Peter the Great on horseback and an angel crowning Peter the Great with a victor’s wreath against the background of a panoramic view of the battle laser treated for matte finishing; on the left, there is a raster image showing scenes of the battles on land and sea, visible by turns when the angle of vision changes; at the bottom, along the circumference, there is a relief inscription: ‘ПЕТР I • ПРЕОБРАЗОВАТЕЛЬ’ (PETER I • THE REFORMER).

 

The edge of the coin is corrugated.

The mintage of the coin is 0.1 thousand pcs;

— of the 10,000-ruble gold coin (Catalogue No. 5221-0033) features relief images of the portrait of Peter the Great with imperial regalia and angels supporting the crown shown against the background of the map of the Russian Empire and the stela with the allegories of the Empire; on the right, there is a raster image representing the allegories of successful trade and creation, visible by turns when the angle of vision changes; in the lower part, there is a relief image of the double-headed eagle overlaid on the ermine mantle, against the background of the composition of military symbols laser treated for matte finishing; at the bottom, along the circumference, there is a relief inscription: ‘ПЕТР I • ПРЕОБРАЗОВАТЕЛЬ’ (PETER I • THE REFORMER).

 

The edge of the coin is corrugated.

 

The coin is minted in proof-like quality.

The mintage of the coin is 0.05 thousand pcs.
