On 18 October 2024, the Bank of Russia issues 3-ruble and 200-ruble silver commemorative coins ‘The 300th Anniversary of the Saint Petersburg Mint’ of the Historical Events series.

The Saint Petersburg Mint is one of the world’s largest mints. It was founded by the Decree of Peter the Great and is located in the most protected place of the northern capital — within the premises of the Peter and Paul Fortress. The Saint Petersburg Mint makes precious metal commemorative and investment coins, government awards, commemorative medals, and various tokens. The Bank of Russia’s largest five-kilo gold and silver commemorative coins bear the mark of the Saint Petersburg Mint.

The 3-ruble silver coins (fine metal content 31.1 g, fineness 925/1,000) and 200-ruble silver coins (fine metal content 3,000.0 g, fineness 925/1,000) have a round shape and are 39.0 mm and 130.0 mm in diameter, respectively.

The obverse and the reverse of the coins have a relief rim around the circumference.

The obverse of the coins features a relief image of the National Coat of Arms of the Russian Federation and the inscriptions ‘РОССИЙСКАЯ ФЕДЕРАЦИЯ’ (RUSSIAN FEDERATION), ‘БАНК РОССИИ’ (BANK OF RUSSIA), the denomination of the coins ‘3 РУБЛЯ’ (3 RUBLES), ‘200 РУБЛЕЙ’ (200 RUBLES), the year of issue ‘2024 г.’ (2024), the chemical symbol of the metal according to Mendeleev’s Periodic Table of Elements, fineness, the Saint Petersburg Mint trademark, and fine metal content.


 

 

The reverse of:

— the 3-ruble coin (Catalogue No. 5111-0512) features relief images of a coining press, the obverse of the 1724 ruble and the reverse of the 1924 fifty-kopeck coin, an image of the building of the Saint Petersburg Mint, laser treated for matte finishing; parts of the background around the press, laser treated for matte finishing, and the background over the image of the mint building, created using the microrelief pattern with the effect of light interference; the relief inscriptions ‘САНКТ-ПЕТЕРБУРГСКИЙ МОНЕТНЫЙ ДВОР’ (SAINT PETERSBURG MINT) around the circumference and ‘300 ЛЕТ’ (300 YEARS) in two lines at the bottom.


 

The edge of the coin is corrugated.

The coin is minted in proof quality.

The mintage of the coin is 3.0 thousand pcs;

— the 200-ruble coin (Catalogue No. 5119-0008) features relief images of Peter the Great, the founder of the mint, a copying lathe, the reverse of the 1923 chervonets, the reverse of the investment coin ‘Saint George the Victorious’, the reverse of the 1724 ruble, reverses and obverses of small coins of different periods, the coin webbing, an image of the Saint Petersburg Mint within a circumference against the background of geometric images, laser treated for matte finishing; the inscriptions ‘300 ЛЕТ’ (300 YEARS) at the top and ‘САНКТ-ПЕТЕРБУРГСКИЙ МОНЕТНЫЙ ДВОР’ (SAINT PETERSBURG MINT) in three lines at the bottom.


 

The edge of the coin is corrugated.

The coin is minted in proof-like quality.

The mintage of the coin is 0.05 thousand pcs.

The new coins are legal tender of the Russian Federation and are mandatory for acceptance for all kinds of payments without any restrictions at their face value.
