Households’ inflation expectations: Bank of Russia to publish telephone survey results

20 April 2020
Press release

The Bank of Russia has suspended its regular household surveys held to measure inflation expectations and consumer sentiment based on telephone interviews due to the self-isolation rules in place.

In an effort to catch data to monitor changes in households’ inflation expectations and consumer sentiment, the Bank of Russia has made the decision to hold two nationwide representative telephone surveys in the course of April. The regulator intends to publish the first and second survey results on its website on 20 April and 6 May respectively.

For reasons of substantially different methodologies, results of telephone surveys are not comparable with those of previous surveys held as personal interviews. They are however a valuable source of real-time data on households’ perception of price movements and consumer behaviour in Russia.
