The first 5 days of voting named top 5 cities to challenge symbols for Bank of Russia new 200- and 2,000-ruble banknotes. As of 15:00 p.m. of 9 September 2016, the symbols of the city of Irkutsk take the lead with 57,247 votes thus ousting Volgograd from the first position the day before (52,120 votes). The second runner-up is Sevastopol with 40,831 votes, followed by the symbols of the Far East (37,946 votes) and Kazan (35,859).

The symbols of Sochi made an impressive spurt; by the weekend they went up from the 9th position to the 6th place, leaving behind on different days Nizhny Novgorod, Sergiyev Posad, Petrozavodsk and Vladimir.

These days have been witnessing higher people’s activity as compared with the first round. Within less than 5 days over 350,000 people have made their suggestions on (Твоя-Россия.рф) website which is by 50,000 more than for the corresponding period of the first round.

The third round is characterised with the following tendency: if earlier mostly those residing on a certain territory suggested their own cities and symbols, now the entire country in involved in the process. The cities are struggling for leadership where every vote counts, and it looks like the rivalry will be even closer despite a gap between the first two toppers from the others.

The all-Russian selection of symbols for new 200- and 2,000-ruble banknotes was initiated by the Bank of Russia. Never before the Russians could suggest and select symbols for new banknotes by themselves. The competition will be a three-round procedure with 7 October 2016 being its final day when the winners will be announced.
