Regional Economy report: consumer activity is moderate

14 October 2026
News

The eastern regions of the country recorded a slower increase in consumer activity in August–September, while many regions of the European part of Russia faced a decline. Given a slowdown in wage growth, consumer behaviours were generally more conservative. The demand for domestic tourism fell. Turnover in online trade was down.

The level of economic activity remained unchanged in August–September, but the situation varied across regions and industries. Volga-Vyatka reported ongoing growth in the output of engineering products and construction materials. Siberian coal producers continued to expand exports, rearranging logistics towards Far Eastern ports. The Urals recorded a reduction in oil production and wood processing, while the southern regions saw a decrease in single-family home construction.

More details are available in the October issue of the report Regional Economy: Commentaries by Bank of Russia Main Branches. The new issue covers such special topics as business and investment activity of enterprises, the labour market, and the 2026 harvest.
