Prices in almost all Russian regions increase more slowly or decline in August
Compared to July, product prices declined in two-thirds of the Russian regions. With the arrival of the new crop in the market, fruit and vegetable prices fell notably. This is a general pattern typical of August. However, the decrease this year was slightly smaller than usual. Cheese and dairy product prices continued to go down.
Non-food prices rose in most Russian regions, albeit more slowly in two-thirds of them, compared to July. The increase in motor fuel prices decelerated considerably in August. The depreciation of the ruble in the summer months pushed up prices for communication devices, electronics, and computers.
Prices for services were down in the majority of the Russian regions. Prices for domestic tourism and passenger transport services continued a downward trend. The growth rate of prices for personal and healthcare services edged down, while remaining high.
