First Bank of Russia Governor passes away

Georgy Matyukhin took over as Governor of the Central Bank of the Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic (the future Bank of Russia) on 25 December 1990, at a difficult and pivotal time. After the State Bank of the USSR was abolished in 1991, he led the formation of the Bank of Russia in the new environment, heading it until 1992.
Georgy Matyukhin died on 5 September 2026.
He was a proactive and responsible manager, whose profound knowledge and experience were called upon in all key areas of work.
The Bank of Russia expresses deep condolences to the relatives and friends of Georgy Matyukhin.
