Regional Economy report: consumption grows moderately

2 September 2026
News

In July–August, consumer activity continued increasing at a moderate rate in most Russian macroregions. July saw a rise in the sales of cars, household appliances, furniture, and related home improvement goods. Concurrently, the tourist flow across Russia went down, with growth in demand for commercial services decelerating.

Output picked up across a number of industries. In the Central and Volga-Vyatka macroregions, car output exceeded the levels of early 2026. Siberia recorded a rise in coal production. Concurrently, the Far Eastern, North-Western, and Southern seaports reported a drop in cargo transshipment. The Urals saw a persistent decline in oil and gas production in July–August.

More details are available in the September issue of the report Regional Economy: Commentaries by Bank of Russia Main Branches. The special topics of this issue include regional budgets, small and medium-sized enterprises, and the commercial services market.
