Investors deposit ₽1 trillion in brokerage accounts

News

In April–June, a net inflow into brokerage accounts exceeded ₽1 trillion, which was 19% more than in the previous quarter. This is the highest value since the beginning of records in 2021. Qualified investors deposited nearly two thirds of this amount.

Amid a gradual decline in deposit rates, retail investors switched to long-term OFZs and medium-term bonds of highly rated companies. They were buying these securities to lock in coupon yields. However, after the key rate path expected by the market went up, investors significantly increased the share of corporate floaters and units in bond funds focused on variable rate securities in their portfolios.

Despite the decline in the MOEX Russia Index, brokerage clients actively purchased shares of Russian issuers. Nevertheless, these purchases failed to offset the negative revaluation of the securities. As a result, the proportion of shares in the structure of investor assets fell to 20%.

The total amount of assets in investors’ brokerage accounts reached ₽13.6 trillion.
