Monitoring businesses: estimates of business activity decline while those of investment activity edge up

The Bank of Russia’s Business Climate Index dropped to −3.6 p in July from 0.9 p in June. Companies decreased their estimates of the current situation but their three-month-ahead demand and output expectations remained positive.
Investment activity was assessed by companies to be growing at a moderate pace in 2026 Q2 after a downturn in the previous quarter. Over the second quarter, the capacity utilisation rate remained higher than in 2017–2019 when inflation was low.
Businesses’ price expectations rose in July after a five-month decline. Companies’ estimates of lending conditions improved compared to June.
