Regional Economy report: economic activity increases

10 June 2026
News

Economic activity rose in most industries in April–May, driven by stronger external demand for certain Russian exports. For example, companies from Siberia and the Far East increased coal production and shipments, while enterprises from the Urals and Central Russia ramped up the output of fertilisers.

Regions recorded mixed demand dynamics in April–May. Businesses in many macroregions reported a decline in demand for furniture and household appliances. Hotels in the South and the North-West noted lower occupancy rates than a year ago because of shorter May holidays. However, hospitality companies from Volga-Vyatka recorded a rise in the tourist flow, due in part to the sports and cultural events that were held in the region. In the Urals, growth in online purchases accelerated.

More details are available in the June issue of the report Regional Economy: Commentaries by Bank of Russia Main Branches. The special topics of this issue include producer prices and costs and housing construction.
