Volunteers will teach people how to navigate the information landscape in order to distinguish scams from actual financial offers. They will also help financial corporations have a better understanding of problems faced by people with various disabilities and identify malpractice in the market. These are the priorities set by the participants in the 11th All-Russian Congress of Financial Education Volunteers.

The Congress traditionally gathers volunteers from the entire country and serves as a forum for sharing practices, developing and scaling up initiatives, and identifying current trends and promising areas for promoting financial literacy.

The majority of the initiatives presented at the Congress are aimed at adults. The focus is on an individual approach and an ability to adapt an idea for a target audience. For example, volunteers give classes on family budgeting to newlyweds and teach them how to reach a compromise in delicate financial matters. Moreover, financial activists assist in arranging trainings and employment for young people with disabilities, teach servicemen how to counter scammers, explain the specifics of Russian financial laws to residents of new territories.

‘It is not easy to teach adults, as they have their own background, education, and priorities. Not everyone is prepared to study only because someone says that it is important and necessary. However, people are eager to learn when information is presented at the right time and in an easy-to-understand format. That is why, we appreciate flexibility and a great variety of formats and learn them from you, financial education volunteers,’ commented Bank of Russia Governor Elvira Nabiullina.

At the moment, 19,000 activists are recorded in the register of financial education volunteers that are students, professional financiers, employees of educational institutions, non-profit organisations, and commercial companies.
