Maximum amount payable under European Accident Statement in case of disagreements doubles
The maximum amount to be claimed under the compulsory motor third-party liability insurance (CMTPLI) when documenting a road accident without calling the police (using the European Accident Statement) in the event of any disagreements between the persons involved in the accident is increased from ₽100,000 to ₽200,000. A compensation within this limit is payable if photos of the damages are provided. This is stipulated by the law adopted by the State Duma.
If there are no disagreements, the payment conditions under the European Accident Statement remain the same. The victim is entitled to a compensation of ₽400,000 if he/she provides photos. Otherwise, the amount payable will not exceed ₽100,000.
The innovation will make people involved in road accidents with disagreements eligible for a greater insurance compensation under the European Accident Statement. This will contribute to the increase in the number of road accidents documented without calling the traffic police. According to the Bank of Russia, in 2024, the European Accident Statement was used to document 40% of all road accidents reported in the CMTPLI system. The amount of the insurance compensation was below ₽100,000 in more than 80% of such cases.
The provision increasing the maximum payout will come into force 10 days after the law is officially published.
