Investors deposit ₽83 billion in brokerage IIAs: 2024 results
In late 2024, investors became more active in opening and topping up individual investment accounts (IIAs). In 2024 Q4, broker clients alone deposited ₽64 billion, which was a fourfold increase year on year. Their total contributions in 2024 exceeded the 2023 level by a factor of 2.5, evidencing the appeal of type 3 IIAs for retail investors.
Higher client contributions and positive revaluation of securities supported the growth of portfolios in IIAs to ₽595 billion. As before, Russian shares were investors’ first choice. Yet, at the end of the year, they were also actively buying units of money market funds, which offered attractive yields amid high interest rates, and bonds issued by residents.
As of the end of 2024, the total number of IIAs reached 6.1 million.
