Voting for 1,000 banknote symbols completed
Over the two weeks of the online voting on the Bank of Russia website, nearly 700,000 persons made their choice. People were selecting symbols for the reverse of the banknote dedicated to the Volga Federal District.
The voters’ preferences were distributed among 25 sites of the federal district put to the vote. The majority voted for Meteor, a hydrofoil boat developed for high-speed passenger transportation; the Agricultural Palace; the Saratov Bridge; the Monument to Salavat Yulaev; the main building of the Kazan Federal University; the Zhigulyovskaya Hydraulic Power Station; the Mother Patroness Monument; the State Memorial and Architectural Complex ‘Memorial Estate of Pyotr Tchaikovsky’; the State Lermontov Museum-Preserve Tarkhany, and the Erzya Mordovian Republican Museum of Fine Arts.
‘Now, it is for the artists of the Bank of Russia and Goznak to decide which sites to choose. They are to create a harmonious composition of symbols preferred by the public, while combining these symbols with security elements,’ noted Bank of Russia Governor Elvira Nabiullina. ‘At first, the artists are to decide which symbols will be at the fore and at the background, how many symbols to choose, and what can be put as micro images. The artists will prepare design sketches. The final version to be the basis for the new banknote will be selected by the Bank of Russia Board of Directors’.
