Number of IIAs goes up to 6 million
Investors have become increasingly interested in individual investment accounts (IIAs). Over 2024 Q3 alone, the number of such accounts increased by 32,000 and reached 6 million, which is the maximum value recorded in 2023 Q4.
The growth was largely fuelled by brokers’ clients depositing ₽21 billion rubles (net deposits) in IIAs. This is a record amount since late 2022. The trust management segment reported an outflow of funds, as investors continue to exit large-scale strategies amid higher returns on other instruments.
Investment preferences of IIA owners changed insignificantly. Investor portfolios are still dominated by shares of Russian issuers. However, variable coupon-income bonds that help reduce the interest rate risk have become popular amid growing rates.
