BRICS member states complete their first international cyber drills in Tatarstan

News

Representatives of the central banks of seven BRICS countries took part in the cyber drills organised by the Bank of Russia.

Participants were trained to counter urgent cyber security threats for several days. Each member state team investigated an incident and reconstructed an entire cyber kill chain in order to track down the attackers and eliminate the consequences of the attack. One of the cyber attack scenarios involved cyber criminals attacking a financial institution by exploiting a vulnerability in its provider’s infrastructure.

To conclude the drills, the participants shared their experience in responding to cyber attacks and taking data protection measures.

The Bank of Russia will continue to interact with cyber security experts from the BRICS member states through the BRISC Channel to coordinate efforts to counter cross-border cyber threats.

The drills took place from 16 through 19 September on the premises of Innopolis University. They were included in the action plan of Russia’s BRICS Presidency.
