Remote traffic accident reporting to become easier: new CMTPLI rules

22 August 2024
News

The traffic accident report form that car drivers receive together with their CMTPLI policies will be added with a QR code. It will link to the webpage on the Public Services Portal describing the procedure for reporting a traffic accident using the European Accident Statement (without involving the traffic police) and offering users to download a mobile application for this.

With such a service, drivers will be able to report a traffic accident and also apply for compensating for damages without visiting an insurance company. This change in the accident report form is provided for by the updated CMTPLI rules that will become effective from 1 October 2024.

The European Accident Statement is in high demand among car drivers. According to the Bank of Russia, 50,000–100,000 traffic accidents are reported monthly without involving the traffic police.

For the convenience of drivers, the new CMTPLI rules have also been supplemented with the information explaining how to buy an insurance policy and act upon the occurrence of an insured event: a list of mandatory documents, the procedure for settling traffic accidents, and other important information. Insurers will provide clients with this document when signing the contract as it is done now.
