Amount of cash exceeds ₽18 trillion: 2023 results

An elevated demand for cash was observed from January till September 2023. The return of cash to the banking system began already in September, which was associated with an increase in attractiveness of banks’ deposits for households due to rising interest rates. December recorded a surge in demand for cash before the New Year holidays.

The shares of 5-ruble and 10-ruble banknotes in the total amount of cash increased to 3% and 7%, respectively, since the Bank of Russia had resumed printing them.
