Annual inflation stays low in May, although rising gradually again in most regions

Consumer activity was recovering in May, although the supply of certain goods and services remained limited, pushing up prices.

Contrastingly, the supply of a number of food products was expanding, thus slowing down inflation. Fifty-five Russian regions recorded a decrease in food prices in annualised terms, which was mainly because enterprises were ramping up the output of dairy products and fruit and vegetables.

The majority of Russian regions faced a faster rise in prices for non-food goods and services. The main contributors to this acceleration were prices for cars amid growing demand and limited supply and prices for domestic and foreign tourism services that rose most notably in the South, the Urals and Siberia.

More details on inflation in each Russian region are available in the information and analytical materials published on the Bank of Russia website.
