Third party liability insurance of hazardous facility owners: compensation increased
The maximum amount of insurance compensation for injury or death caused by an accident at a hazardous facility will be increased from 2 to 3 million rubles. The draft law, which raises the level of social protection for employees at such facilities and their families, was adopted by the State Duma in its second reading.
The current level of payments has not changed since the introduction of a compulsory third party liability insurance of hazardous facilities’ owners in 2012.
The insurance amounts will also increase — 1.5 times or more, depending on the type of hazardous facility. For instance, the insurance amount for hydraulic structures will increase from 6.5 to 9.75 billion rubles, for mines — from 100 to 250 million rubles, and for filling stations — from 10 to 20 million rubles.
The law will come into force 90 days after its official publication.
