Annual inflation slows down in most regions in September

News

Decline in annual inflation was assisted by an expansion in food supply, generally moderate consumer activity, and the ruble strengthening which started in the beginning of the year.

There were also a number of factors that accelerated price growth, i.e., the gradual easing of monetary conditions, an increase in producer costs associated with the transformation of producer activities, as well as one-off factors in the services segment. In mid-September, their importance for current inflation increased.

As compared to August, an annual increase in food prices slowed down across all federal districts, which was mainly due to prices for fruit and vegetables and meat products. Among non-food goods, the most notable drop in annual price growth was registered for passenger cars, as their manufacturers and suppliers were adapting to the new conditions by restructuring production and logistics.

Conversely, annual growth in services prices sped up in most regions, i.e., the services prices of mobile communications operators rose due to the pass-through of their costs to prices, and higher prices of car spare parts increased the cost of car insurance policies.

More details on inflation in Russian regions are available in the information and analytical materials published on the Bank of Russia website.
