New ₽500 banknote motifs: expert choice
A group of experts has suggested
The final list of motifs for the obverse side features cultural, historical and natural objects of Pyatigorsk with an eagle sculpture on the Hot Mountain, the monument to Mikhail Lermontov and the Aeolian harp pavilion taking the lead.
Monuments and popular sights in the North Caucasian Republics were suggested for the reverse side. Most of the votes were given to Mount Elbrus, the Derbent fortress in Daghestan, Vovnushki and Targim tower complexes in Ingushetia. According to the experts, the Triumphal Arch Tiflis Gate in Stavropol, Grozny-City Towers, the National Library of the Chechen Republic, the Chirkey Hydro Power Station, the largest in Eurasia azimuthal telescope in Arkhyz, the Roki Tunnel linking North Ossetia and South Ossetia, the Seven Cranes monument near Vladikavkaz, the Memorial of Memory and Glory in Nazran, and some others may also appear on the banknote.
‘All the sights selected by the experts are important, recognisable and graphically perfect as a banknote motif. They will be assessed when the design of the banknote is developed. We find it important to reflect various aspects of life in the North Caucasus, its history and modern achievements in full,’ says Sergey Belov, Deputy Governor of the Bank of Russia. — ‘Artists of the Bank of Russia and Goznak will draft a number of conceptual sketches featuring various combinations of objects selected from the final group. The final decision will be made by the Bank of Russia Board of Directors.’
