Expert group holds first meeting to select images for new 500-ruble banknote
Members of the group, which held its kick-off meeting on 8 September, are to prepare a list of sights and landmarks of Pyatigorsk and the North Caucasian Federal District that might become the basis for the design of the upgraded
The expert group includes respected historians, culturologists, economists, notaphilists and numismatists.
‘Choosing symbols for banknote designs is a challenging yet interesting and creative task. An image on the banknote should express the uniqueness of the region, on the one hand, and be a uniting symbol for all ethnic groups living in the federal district, on the other hand,’ Deputy Governor of the Bank of Russia Sergey Belov said at the online meeting with the experts.
In the near future, the Bank of Russia expects to receive the experts’ suggestions about the symbols that might be depicted on the banknote. All suggestions will be considered and systematised. The experts will then discuss them at the meetings to take place before the end of September 2022 and shortlist the best options.
The final decision on images for the banknote will be made by the Bank of Russia Board of Directors.
