Cyber fraudsters slow down their activity in Q2
The number of cases of money theft in 2022 Q2 dropped by 10.8% to 211,200 compared to the same period of 2021. The total amount of losses caused by malefactors declined by 5.5% to 2.8 billion rubles.
This decrease was a result of lower activity of cyber fraudsters against people since late February through April. However, the number of phone calls and messages from malefactors began to rise again since May.
In April—June 2022, the Bank of Russia initiated the blocking of 117,600 telephone numbers, which is almost 10 times more year-on-year. The number of fraudulent Internet resources blocked at the regulator’s initiative increased more than 1.5 times.
