Most regions record slower inflation in June

Annual inflation declined in 79 out of 82 Russian regions, ranging from 21.0% in the Republic of Ingushetia to 2.1% in the Chukotka Autonomous Area. Inflation slowed down owing to a large number of short-term factors, including among others, a further adjustment of prices for those goods which sharply appreciated in March, as well as a period of the fast strengthening of the ruble, and a positive situation in the fruit and vegetable market. Businesses continued to pass through higher production and transportation costs of many goods into prices.

Over the month, fruit and vegetables fell in price in all federal districts, making the main contribution to the slowdown in food inflation. There was a smaller increase in prices for cars and construction materials in the non-food segment.

Developments in service prices differed from region to region. They were largely conditioned on the changes in air fares. Annual growth in the air transport prices slowed down in the North Caucasus, North West, and Volga Regions. In contrast, the Urals and Siberia saw it accelerating.
