Insurance claims in CMTPLI to be settled online
By 1 January 2025, insurers are obliged to implement the option allowing online claim handling in compulsory motor third party liability insurance (CMTPLI). Until then, companies can offer this option at their discretion. The relevant law drafted with the engagement of the Bank of Russia has been approved by the State Duma in the second reading.
Currently, customers can only buy an insurance policy through the internet. After the law becomes effective, all stages of the services under CMTPLI policies will be available online.
As agreed upon with the insurer, the car damaged in an accident can also be examined remotely. For this, victims will have the opportunity to send photos and videos to insurers on their own.
Customers will still be able to purchase insurance policies at an insurer’s office or from an agent, as well as to settle losses in-person.
