Higher producer costs affect inflation in most Russian regions

23 May 2022
News

In April 2022, annual inflation ranged from 9.7% in the Chukotka Autonomous Area to 23.9% in the Republic of Ingushetia. Proinflationary impact was chiefly generated by higher producer costs, due in part to lower imports and disruptions in production and supply chains.

The biggest variation in price movements across regions was demonstrated by non-food goods. In many regions, prices for fast-moving consumer goods (perfumes and cosmetics, and cleaners and detergents) rose at a high rate. At the same time, a stronger ruble and dissipating effects of rush demand made medical goods and electrical household appliances cheaper compared to the previous month.

A faster growth in food prices across regions was mainly due to animal products. In the services segment, prices for foreign tourism services, air fares, banking services, as well as personal services grew the most.
