Detection of counterfeit banknotes: 2017 Q2 statistics

In the second quarter of 2017, as many as 12,194 counterfeit Bank of Russia notes were detected in the Russian banking system.

5,000-ruble notes were dominant (7,402 banknotes); less often counterfeited were 1,000-ruble notes (4,531). The fewest number of counterfeits was in the 10-ruble denomination (3 banknotes). As many as 28 coins were forged, which included 19 of the 5-ruble denomination, eight 10-ruble coins and one 2-ruble coin.

A total of 539 counterfeit foreign currency banknotes were discovered in the period. 192 pieces emerged in April; the same number emerged in May. 155 pieces were detected in June. The overwhelming majority of forged banknotes (475 pieces) were US dollars. Several euro and Chinese yuan counterfeits were also exposed.
