On 3 November 2026, the Bank of Russia issues a
Mikhail Speransky (1772–1839) went down in history as one of Russia’s most prominent reformers of the 19th century. Under Alexander I, he developed a framework for restructuring the highest levels of government, which, in his opinion, should be based on the principle of separation of the legislature (the Duma), the executive (the ministries), and the judiciary (the Senate). During the reign of Nicholas I, Speransky became the driving force behind the codification of Russian law. Under his guidance, 45 volumes of the Complete Collection of the Laws of the Russian Empire and 15 volumes of the Digest of the Laws were compiled. In recognition of this colossal work, Nicholas I took off his own Order of St Andrew the Apostle the First-Called, Russia’s highest order, and handed it over to Speransky.

The obverse of the coin features a relief image of the National Coat of Arms of the Russian Federation and the inscriptions ‘РОССИЙСКАЯ ФЕДЕРАЦИЯ’ (RUSSIAN FEDERATION) and ‘БАНК РОССИИ’ (BANK OF RUSSIA), the denomination of the coin ‘2 РУБЛЯ’ (2 RUBLES), the year of issue ‘2026 г.’ (2026), the chemical symbol of the metal according to Mendeleev’s Periodic Table of Elements, fineness, the Saint Petersburg Mint trademark, and fine metal content.
The reverse of the coin features the relief images of Mikhail Speransky’s portrait, a book, and an inkwell with a feather against the background of an image of the Pillar of the Law, laser treated for matte finishing; and the relief inscriptions ‘М.М. СПЕРАНСКИЙ’ (M. SPERANSKY) around the upper circumference as well as ‘1772’ and ‘1839’ in two lines on the left.
The edge of the coin is corrugated.
The coin is minted in proof quality.
The mintage of the coin is 3.0 thousand pcs.
