Bank of Russia issues commemorative coins of precious and base metals

On September 5, 2018 the Central Bank of the Russian Federation issues commemorative coins of precious and base metals:

  • a silver proof coin in denomination of 3 Rubles „The Bicentenary of the Foundation of the city of Grozny” (catalogue number 5111-0390, mintage 2,000 pcs);
  • silver proof coins in denominations of 3 Rubles (catalogue number 5111-0391, mintage 3,000 pcs) and 25 Rubles (catalogue number 5115-0145, mintage 1,000 pcs) of the series „Centenary of the State Museum of Oriental Art”;
  • a silver proof coin in denomination of 25 Rubles „Estate ‚Mcyri (Spasskoe)’ (‚Serednikovo’), Moscow region” (catalogue number 5115-0146, mintage 1,000 pcs) of the series „Architectural Monuments of Russia”;
  • a silver proof coin in denomination of 3 Rubles (catalogue number 5111-0392, mintage 3,000 pcs), a gold proof coin in denomination of 50 Rubles (catalogue number 5216-0116, mintage 1,500 pcs) and two base metal coins in denomination of 10 Rubles (catalogue numbers 5714-0061 and 5714-0062, mintage 5,000,000 pcs each) of the series „The 29th Winter Universiade of 2019 in the city of Krasnoyarsk”.

Description of the coins of precious metals:

Silver proof coins in denominations of 3 Rubles (fine metal content 31.1 g, fineness 925/1000, diameter 39.0 mm) and 25 Rubles (fine metal content 155.5 g, fineness 925/1000, diameter 60.0 mm) and a gold proof coin in denomination of 50 Rubles (fine metal content 7.78 g, fineness 999, diameter 22.6 mm) have the rim raised on both sides of the coins along the circumference. The edge of the coins is corrugated.

The obverse side of the coins bears a relief image of the State Coat of Arms of the Russian Federation, the inscriptions „РОССИЙСКАЯ ФЕДЕРАЦИЯ” (RUSSIAN FEDERATION) and „БАНК РОССИИ” (BANK OF RUSSIA), the denominations of the coins „3 РУБЛЯ” (3 RUBLES), „25 РУБЛЕЙ” (25 RUBLES), „50 РУБЛЕЙ” (50 RUBLES) and the year „2018”, an indication of the metal according to the D.I. Mendeleyev Periodic System of Elements, purity, trade mark of the Saint Petersburg mint and fine precious metal content.

The reverse side:

  • of the coin „The Bicentenary of the Foundation of the city of Grozny” depicts a relief image of the Heart of Chechnya mosque with laser matted images of Grozny-City Towers and mountains in the background. At the bottom the inscription in two lines reads: „ГРОЗНЫЙ осн. в 1818 г.” (GROZNY founded in 1818).
  • of the coin of the series „Centenary of the State Museum of Oriental Art” in denomination of 3 Rubles depicts a relief image of one of the items of the museum’s collection: a rhyton (drinking vessel) shaped after Pegasus, the mythological winged horse, with laser matted pattern of a Nepalese mandala in the background. The inscriptions read: „ГОСУДАРСТВЕННЫЙ МУЗЕЙ ВОСТОКА” (STATE MUSEUM OF ORIENTAL ART) along the rim and „100 ЛЕТ” (100 YEARS) at the bottom in two lines.
  • of the coin of the series „Centenary of the State Museum of Oriental Art” in denomination of 25 Rubles depicts relief images of some of the items of the museum’s collection with laser matted pattern of a Nepalese mandala in the background. The inscriptions read: „ГОСУДАРСТВЕННЫЙ МУЗЕЙ ВОСТОКА” (STATE MUSEUM OF ORIENTAL ART) along the rim and „100 ЛЕТ” (100 YEARS) at the bottom in two lines.
  • of the coin „Estate ‚Mcyri (Spasskoe)’ (‚Serednikovo’), Moscow region” depicts a relief image of the main building of the estate surrounded by trees. At the bottom, under a stylised image of a scroll, the inscription reads „УСАДЬБА СЕРЕДНИКОВО” („SEREDNIKOVO ESTATE”).
  • of the coin of the series „The 29th Winter Universiade of 2019 in the city of Krasnoyarsk” in denomination of 3 Rubles depicts a relief image of a female skier against a background of the 29th Winter Universiade official pattern. The inscription along the circumference reads „WINTER UNIVERSIADE КРАСНОЯРСК 2019” („WINTER UNIVERSIADE KRASNOYARSK 2019”).
  • of the coin of the series „The 29th Winter Universiade of 2019 in the city of Krasnoyarsk” in denomination of 50 Rubles depicts a relief image of the 29th Winter Universiade logotype. The inscription along the circumference reads „WINTER UNIVERSIADE КРАСНОЯРСК 2019” („WINTER UNIVERSIADE KRASNOYARSK 2019”).

Description of the coins of base metal:

Base metal coins in denomination of 10 Rubles are 22.0 mm in diameter, yellow in colour and have the rim raised on both sides of the coins along the circumference. The edge of the coins is corrugated, each section contains different number of corrugations alternating with smooth sections.

The obverse side of the coins bears inscriptions along the circumference: „БАНК РОССИИ” (BANK OF RUSSIA) at the top, „2018” at the bottom. On the left and on the right there are stylised images of laurel and oak branches respectively. In the center of the disc is the indication of the face value of the coin in two lines: „10 РУБЛЕЙ” (10 RUBLES). Inside the figure „0” there is a protective element in the form of the figure „10” and the inscription „РУБ” (RUB) visible when changing angles of vision. In the lower part of the disc there is a mint trademark.

The reverse side:

  • of one of the coins of the series „The 29th Winter Universiade of 2019 in the city of Krasnoyarsk” (catalogue number 5714-0061) depicts a relief image of the 29th Winter Universiade logotype. The inscription along the circumference reads „WINTER UNIVERSIADE КРАСНОЯРСК 2019” („WINTER UNIVERSIADE KRASNOYARSK 2019”).
  • of another coin of the series „The 29th Winter Universiade of 2019 in the city of Krasnoyarsk” (catalogue number 5714-0062) depicts a relief image of U-Laika, the 29th Winter Universiade official mascot. The inscription along the circumference reads „WINTER UNIVERSIADE КРАСНОЯРСК 2019” („WINTER UNIVERSIADE KRASNOYARSK 2019”).

The coins are legal tender of the Russian Federation. They are obligatory for acceptance for all kinds of payments without any restrictions at their face value.
