Kamensk-Uralsky was awarded the honorary title City of Labour Valour for the great contribution of its residents to the Victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941–1945, uninterrupted manufacture of military and civilian products at industrial enterprises and people’s labour heroism and commitment.

With the onset of the Great Patriotic War, 26 industrial enterprises, including their workers, were evacuated from the European part of the USSR to Kamensk-Uralskiy.

In the summer of 1941, the Ural Aluminium Plant (known as UAZ) was receiving up to 500 railway cars with equipment and workers per day. During the first year of the war, UAZ produced as much aviation metal as all the country’s aviation plants had produced before the war. Over the war years, the gross output of UAZ increased by 260%, and its headcount was up by 255%. Until January 1943, this plant was the only producer of aluminium in the USSR. In 1942–1945, UAZ was awarded the Red Banner of the State Defence Committee of the USSR 22 times. In 1945, the plant was awarded the Order of Lenin for the successful fulfilment of the government’s task of supplying aluminium and its alloys to the aviation and tank industries.

In August–September 1941, the Sinarsky Pipe Plant (SinTZ) received equipment and workers from nine plants. By the end of 1941, the plant supplied 1,260 tonnes of steel strip, which was used for the production of springs for small arms, machine-gun belt links, detonators, and many other components. During the war years, SinTZ expanded its output eightfold.

Over remarkably short periods of time, the city commissioned a non-ferrous metals processing plant, a foundry, and a metallurgical plant.
