Kogalym is a Russian city located in the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Area – Yugra.
The city’s history goes back to the summer of 1975 when a geological and hydrological expedition arrived there. The specialists came ashore on the high bank of the Inguyagun river and founded the first settlement in this territory. In 1978, the Kogalym Settlement Council was established, and on 15 August 1985, the settlement acquired the status of a city subordinate to the government of the autonomous area. In late 1970s, first oil producers appreared there. The whole country built the city, laying roads and power lines in difficult conditions, developing oil fields, and constructing plants.
