in the center — the Emblem of the Bank of Russia (the two headed eagle designed by I.Bilibin, lower — the semicircular inscription — «БАНК РОССИИ» (BANK OF RUSSIA) framed by a circle of dots and inscriptions along the rim:at the top — «ПЯТЬДЕСЯТ РУБЛЕЙ» (FIFTY RUBLES), at the bottom — «1999», the letters to the left indicate the metal sign and the fineness, to the right — the fine metal content and the mint trade mark.

Reverse

the profile self portrait of A.S.Pushkin, under it — the facsimile signature of the poet and his goose quill, lower — the dates «1799» «1837».

Many manuscripts of A.S.Pushkin kept in the Pushkin's house in St.Petersburg, contain marginal drawings made by the poet: landscape sketches, characteristic types, personages of his works, real and imaginary woman's shapes and certainly self portraits of different periods of his life.The self portrait on the coin dates from 1827-1830.
