The 225th Anniversary of the Bolshoi Theater
Obverse
in the center — the Emblem of the Bank of Russia [the two-headed eagle with wings down, lower — the semicircular inscription — «БАНК РОССИИ» (BANK OF RUSSIA)] framed by a circle of dots and inscriptions along the rim: at the top — «ДЕСЯТЬ РУБЛЕЙ» (TEN RUBLES), at the bottom — the year of issue «2001», the letters to the left indicate the metal sign and the fineness, to the right — the fine metal content and the mint trade mark.
Reverse
the building of the Bolshoi Theater, lower — the date «225», the inscription at the top along the rim: — «БОЛЬШОЙ ТЕАТР» (BOLSHOI THEATER).

The Bolshoi Theater of Russia, founded in Moscow in 1776, is one of the leading and famous centers of the world ballet and opera art, a symbol of the Russian culture. The modern building of the theater was built in 1825 (by the architect O.I. Bove) and reconstructed in 1856 (by the architect A.K. Kavos).
