Naberezhnye Chelny is a Russian city located in the north-eastern part of Tatarstan, on the left bank of the Kama River.

Naberezhnye Chelny was first mentioned in Russian chronicles back in 1626 when a community of new peasants led by Fedor Popov emerged in the Yelabuga village. In the same year, Fedor Popov, together with five friendly families, crossed the Kama River and settled in the houses already built there. The settlement founded in 1626 was originally named Chalninsky Pochinok and was later on renamed Beregovye Chelny, Berezhnye Chelny, and finally, Naberezhnye Chelny.

At the beginning of the 20th century, Naberezhnye Chelny was known for active grain trade. A river elevator with a capacity of two million poods of bread, erected in 1917, which was then the largest one in Russia, became the symbol of the city. The Naberezhnye Chelny elevator still functions today and is a historical and architectural monument.

In 1969, the country started the construction of the KAMAZ truck plant. On 16 February 1976, the plant launched the first line of its main conveyor in the start-up mode to commission a KAMAZ truck with serial number 0000001 of the famous model 5320.
