in the center — the Emblem of the Bank of Russia (the two headed eagle designed by I.Bilibin, lower — the semicircular inscription — «БАНК РОССИИ» (BANK OF RUSSIA) framed by a circle of dots and inscriptions along the rim:at the top — «ДВА РУБЛЯ» (TWO RUBLES), at the bottom — «1999», the letters to the left indicate the metal sign and the fineness,to the right — the fine metal content and the mint trade mark.
Reverse
the portrait of K.P.Bryullov painted by the artist V.A.Tropinin against the background of mountain contours, at the bottom — a palette with the dates in two lines «1799» «1852». The inscription to the left at the top along the rim: «К.П.БРЮЛЛОВ» (K.P.BRYULLOV).

Karl Pavlovich Bryullov (b.December 12 [December 23 New Style] 1799 d.June 11 [June 22, 1852 ]) — Russian painter and graphic artist. His creative work infused a spirit of romanticism and vitality into the painting of Russian classicism.The Bryullov's works are notable for dramatic tensity of images («Last Day of Pompeii»), realistic trends, subtle psychological insight (the self portrait, portraits of A.N.Strugovschikov, N.V.Kukolnik, M.Lanchi), the affirmation of the sensible and plastic beauty of human being («Virsaviya»). Karl Bryullov was a brilliant master of the smart portrait. He used to live in Italy in 1823-1835 and since 1850.
