Ivan Petrovich Pavlov (b.September 14 [September 26 New Style] 1849 — d.February 27, 1936]) — Russian physiologist, creator of the materialist teaching about the higher nervous activity, founder of the biggest modern physiological school, academician of the St.Petersburg Academy of Sciences (1907). He has written classic works on physiology of the blood circulation and digestion (Nobel prize, 1904). Research works of I.P.Pavlov influenced the development of physiology, medicine, psychology. Since 1925 he guided the Institute of Physiology of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR
