the two-headed eagle designed by artist I. Bilibin. The inscriptions along the rim: at the top — «ДВА РУБЛЯ 1997 г.» (TWO RUBLES 1997), at the bottom — «БАНК РОССИИ» (BANK OF RUSSIA). The letters below indicate the metal sign, the fineness, the fine metal content and the mint trademark.
Reverse
the portrait of N.E. Zhukovski and Ikaros with the wings. The inscription at the top along the rim: «Н.Е.ЖУКОВСКИЙ» (N.E. ZHUKOVSKY), at the bottom in two lines – the dates «1847» and «1921».

Nikolai Yegorovich Zhukovsky (1847-1921) – Russian researcher, founder of modern aerodynamics, and corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences in St. Petersburg (1894) – wrote many scientific works on the theory of aviation, and carried out many important research projects on astronomy, mathematics, hydrodynamics, hydraulics, and applied mechanics. He was the founder and first director of the Central Aerohydrodynamic Research Institute in Moscow.
