The first proletarian sports society Dynamo was founded on 18 April 1923 as an organisation providing the opportunity for security service and police officers to go in for sports.
The Dynamo society was quickly developing, and the number of its members was constantly increasing. The society actively promoted a healthy living and, by 1929, had branches in 200 cities across the country. The Dynamo’s priority activities included the revival of national boxing, the development of shooting and combat sambo. Dynamo athletes were the strongest in these sports for many years, and coaches developed unique training techniques.
In 1937, the Dynamo society received the highest award of the USSR – the Order of Lenin for the outstanding achievements in developing sports.
Today, the Dynamo society is an all-Russian public, state-supported sports organisation in all constituent entities of the Russian Federation. Over 1,000 athletes from the Dynamo society are members of Russian national teams.
