Financial literacy to become a compulsory high school course
Students in grades ten and eleven will learn about the financial market, Bank of Russia functions and tasks, financial technologies, as well as the causes and implications of inflation at social science classes. Personal finance and financial fraud protection will be an intrinsic part of the course. Also, senior pupils will study fiscal management and taxes, as well as the specifics of professional activities in finance.
The Russian Ministry of Education has issued an order to include the financial literacy into the federal educational standards for high school. The Bank of Russia and the Ministry of Finance were involved in the preparation of these amendments as experts.
School curricula should be aligned with the new standards by 1 September 2023.
As for grades one through nine, the basic financial literacy course has become compulsory since the beginning of 2022/23 academic year. It is taught within mathematics, computer science, elementary science, social science and geography.
