Cash and non-cash payments: Russians’ preferences

All types of payment instruments are sufficiently popular among people, according to the Bank of Russia’s public opinion survey. The proportion of respondents who cannot imagine their life without cash made 61%. The same percentage noted that it would be impossible to do without cashless payments.
Visitors of most points of sale prefer cashless payments. Nonetheless, the share of cash payments in small stores remains high — 66%.
Overall, a third of people mostly pay with cash, and this trend has been observed since 2018.
