On 9 January 2023, the Bank of Russia issues the following investment coins:

— a 3-ruble silver coin ‘Saint George the Victorious’ (Catalogue No. 5111-0178), and

— a 10-ruble gold coin ‘Gold Tchervonets’ (Catalogue No. 5214-0009).

The image of Saint George the Victorious was used in ancient Russia beginning from the 11th century as a national symbol. The image was put on dukes’ seals, flags, coats of arms, and coins. Soviet gold tchervonets coins were first minted in 1923 by the Petrograd Mint. By their parameters, they replicated the 10-ruble coin of tsarist Russia and were designed by mint master Anton Vasyutinsky based on a sketch for one of the agricultural shows held before the revolution.

The 3-ruble silver investment coin (fine metal content 31.1 g, fineness 999/1,000) has a round shape and is 39.0 mm in diameter. The 10-ruble gold investment coin (fine metal content 7.78 g, fineness 999/1,000) has a round shape and is 22.6 mm in diameter.

The obverse and the reverse of the coins have a relief rim around the circumference.

The obverse of the coin ‘Saint George the Victorious’ features a relief image of the National Coat of Arms of the Russian Federation and the inscriptions ‘РОССИЙСКАЯ ФЕДЕРАЦИЯ’ (RUSSIAN FEDERATION) and ‘БАНК РОССИИ’ (BANK OF RUSSIA), the coin denomination ‘3 РУБЛЯ’ (3 RUBLES), the year of issue ‘2023 г.’ (2023), the chemical symbol of the metal according to Mendeleev’s Periodic Table of Elements, fineness, the mint trademark, and fine metal content.

The reverse of the coin features a relief image of Saint George the Victorious on horseback slaying a dragon.

The edge of the coin is corrugated.

The coin is minted in uncirculated quality.

The maximum mintage of the coin is 500.0 thousand pcs.

The obverse of the coin ‘Gold Tchervonets’ features a relief image of the National Coat of Arms of the Russian Federation and the inscriptions ‘РОССИЙСКАЯ ФЕДЕРАЦИЯ’ (RUSSIAN FEDERATION) and ‘БАНК РОССИИ’ (BANK OF RUSSIA), the coin denomination ‘10 РУБЛЕЙ’ (10 RUBLES), the chemical symbol of the metal according to Mendeleev’s Periodic Table of Elements, fineness, the mint trademark, and fine metal content.

The reverse of the coin depicts a peasant—sower at work in the centre; in the background, there are rays of the rising sun on the left, smoking plant chimneys on the right, a field and a plough in the centre; the inscription ‘ОДИН ЧЕРВОНЕЦ’ (ONE TCHERVONETS) is at the top, and the dates ‘1923’ and ‘2023’ are at the bottom.

The edge of the coin is corrugated.

The coin is minted in uncirculated quality.

The maximum mintage of the coin is 500.0 thousand pcs.

The new coins are legal tender of the Russian Federation and are mandatory for acceptance for all kinds of payments without any restrictions at their face value.
