The Bank of Russia develops and publishes statistical data in accordance with Article 4 of Federal Law No. 86-FZ (as amended), dated 10 July 2002, and Federal Law No. 282-FZ, dated 29 November 2007, ‘On the Official Statistical Service and System of State Statistics in the Russian Federation’ (as amended).

The publication of the statistical data by the Bank of Russia is aimed at providing a wide range of users with true, up-to-date, relevant public information which underlies Bank of Russia monetary policy decisions, in the development and strengthening of the banking system, in the promotion of stability of the financial market and the national payment system which can also be useful to economic agents when making management decisions.

The Section publishes Bank of Russia statistical data to fully illustrate the relations between the residents and non-residents of the Russian Federation, the role of the banking sector and non-bank financial institutions in the Russian economy, the status of the financial market and the national payment system, monetary operations and the methodology for their development. The information is represented on a nationwide scale and when applicable by federal district and constituent territory of the Russian Federation.

When generating statistical information the Bank of Russia is guided by international principles of substantiality of the methodology, consistency, accuracy, safety, convenience for using, accessibility of data, and also confidentiality of the data sources.

When generating statistical data the Bank of Russia uses the official statistical methodology which complies with international standards and principles of official statistical service, as well as with Russian legislation.

Principal global indicators

Pursuant to Clause 3 of Article 19 and Clause 3 of Article 20 of Federal Law No. 8-FZ, dated 9 February 2009, ‘On Providing Access to Information on Activity of State and Local Authorities’ the Bank of Russia is entitled to withhold the information requested, provided this information is available on its website. Responding to such request the Bank of Russia can give as a reference the official email address of its website where the information requested is published.
