The 5000-ruble banknote is printed on white high-quality cotton paper. Chaotically embedded in the paper are protective light-green, red, and grey fibres, as well as fibres with alternating red and blue sectors. The 3 mm wide window thread with the holographic covering is embedded in the paper. The banknote has local watermarks on the left and right unprinted areas.

The front of the banknote depicts the monument to N.N. Muravjov-Amursky and the embankment in Khabarovsk.

On the back of the banknote there is the bridge over the Amur River in Khabarovsk.

Predominant colours of the banknote are red and brown.

The banknote possesses several machine-readable security features.

On the front of the note there are two serial numbers that consist of two letters indicating the series followed by seven digits.

Security features

Security features checked in the transmitted light
Multitone & highlight watermark
The paper has local watermarks on the left and right unprinted areas. The watermark located on the wide unprinted area consists of a multitone watermark (a fragment of the monument to Muravyov-Amursky in the city of Khabarovsk) and a highlight watermark — a numeric value of the denomination (value numeral „5000”). The highlight watermark has lighter elements than the background paper and multitone watermark. In the narrow unprinted area there is a numeric value of the denomination (value numeral 5000).
Microperforation
When the banknote is held up to the source of light, one can view the note denomination „5000” formed by absolutely straight parallel rows of holes perforated in the paper. The area of a banknote with the holes does not feel rough to the touch.

When the banknote is held up to the light you can see the security thread as a straight continuous dark line with light repeated value numerals „5000”.

Security features checked by tilting a banknote
Optically variable ink (OVI)
The coat-of-arms of the city of Khabarovsk is printed with optically variable ink. When the banknote is tilted, the coat-of-arms changes colour from purple to olive green.
Latent multicoloured stripes (Moire variable colour — MVC)
When a banknote is viewed at the right angle the area looks one-coloured. When the banknote is tilted you can see multicoloured stripes on that area.
Latent image of the letters „РР” (kipp-effect)
When a banknote is viewed at an acute angle, letters „РР” become visible on the decorative stripe. The letters become either light on a dark background or dark on a light background depending on the orientation of the banknote.
