Ufa was awarded the honorary title City of Labour Valour for the great contribution of its residents to the Victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941–1945, uninterrupted manufacture of military and civilian products at industrial enterprises and people’s labour heroism and commitment.
From the beginning of the Great Patriotic War, Ufa provided housing for over 100,000 people and space for over 60 industrial enterprises of national importance. The majority of workers arrived from Rybinsk together with the famous engine plant and rapidly launched the production of engines for fighter aircraft and bombers. The city also hosted many oil-processing plants from the southern regions of the country. Every fourth engine ran on fuel made in Ufa.
