Obverse

in the center - the Emblem of the Bank of Russia (the two-headed eagle designed by I.Bilibin, lower - the semicircular inscription - "БАНК РОССИИ" (BANK OF RUSSIA) framed by a circle of dots and inscriptions along the rim: at the top - "ДВА РУБЛЯ" (TWO RUBLES), at the bottom - "2000", the letters to the left indicate the metal sign and the fineness, to the right - the fine metal content and the mint trade mark.

Reverse

to the left - the portrait of M.I.Chigorin, under it - the inscription made on a ribbon: "М.И.ЧИГОРИН" (M.I.CHIGORIN), to the right - a chess-board with chess-men on it, lower - the dates in two lines "1850" "1908".

Mikhail Ivanovich Chigorin (b. November 12, 1850 - d. January 25, 1908) - founder of the Russian chess school, organizer of the chess movement in Russia, winner of the 1st All Russian Chess Tournament (1899), Russia chess champion (1899-1906) and world chess challenger (1889-1892).
