Bank of Russia issues commemorative precious metal coins

On 25 May 2020, the Bank of Russia issues the following commemorative coins:

— silver proof coin in denomination of 3 rubles and gold proof coin in denomination of 50 rubles of the series ‘100th Anniversary of the Foundation of the Foreign Intelligence Service of the Russian Federation’;

— silver proof coin in denomination of 3 rubles ‘100th Anniversary of the Foundation of the Chuvash Autonomous Region’;

— silver proof coin in denomination of 3 rubles ‘100th Anniversary of the Foundation of the Republic of Karelia’;

— 3 silver proof coins in denomination of 3 rubles ‘160th Anniversary of the Bank of Russia’.

The silver proof coins in denomination of 3 rubles (fine metal content 31.1 g, fineness 925/1,000) and the gold proof coin in denomination of 50 rubles (fine metal content 7.78 g, fineness 999/1,000) have a round shape 39.0 mm and 22.6 mm in diameter respectively.

The obverse and the reverse of the coins have a relief rim along the circumference.

The obverse of the coins of the series ‘100th Anniversary of the Foundation of the Foreign Intelligence Service of the Russian Federation’, ‘100th Anniversary of the Foundation of the Chuvash Autonomous Region’ and ‘100th Anniversary of the Foundation of the Republic of Karelia’ features a relief image of the national emblem of the Russian Federation and the inscriptions ‘РОССИЙСКАЯ ФЕДЕРАЦИЯ’ (RUSSIAN FEDERATION) and ‘БАНК РОССИИ’ (BANK OF RUSSIA), the coin denomination ‘3 РУБЛЯ’ (3 RUBLES), ‘50 РУБЛЕЙ’ (50 RUBLES), the year of issue ‘2020 г.’ (2020), the chemical symbol of the metal according to Mendeleev’s Periodic Table of Elements, fineness, the St. Petersburg Mint trademark, and fine metal content.

The obverse of the coins ‘160th Anniversary of the Bank of Russia’ features a relief image of the emblem of the Bank of Russia — a two-headed eagle with drooping wings — in a bead-shaped ring and a semicircular inscription ‘БАНК РОССИИ’ (BANK OF RUSSIA) below it; along the circumference there are inscriptions divided by dots: the coin denomination ‘3 РУБЛЯ’ (3 RUBLES) above, the year of issue ‘2020 г.’ (2020) below and the chemical symbol of the metal according to Mendeleev’s Periodic Table of Elements, fineness, the St. Petersburg Mint trademark, and fine metal content in the middle.

The reverse:

— of the coin in the denomination of 3 rubles of the series ‘100th Anniversary of the Foundation of the Foreign Intelligence Service of the Russian Federation’ (Catalogue No. 5111-0423) bears a relief image of the complex of buildings of the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service in Moscow with a coloured flag of the Foreign Intelligence Service; there are inscriptions: ‘СЛУЖБА ВНЕШНЕЙ РАЗВЕДКИ РОССИЙСКОЙ ФЕДЕРАЦИИ’ (FOREIGN INTELLIGENCE SERVICE OF THE RUSSIAN FEDERATION) along the circumference and ‘100 ЛЕТ’ (100 YEARS) below, above a laurel branch.

— of the coin in the denomination of 50 rubles of the series ‘100th Anniversary of the Foundation of the Foreign Intelligence Service of the Russian Federation’ (Catalogue No. 5216-0122) bears a relief image of the medium emblem of the Foreign Intelligence Service; there are inscriptions: ‘СЛУЖБА ВНЕШНЕЙ РАЗВЕДКИ РОССИЙСКОЙ ФЕДЕРАЦИИ’ (FOREIGN INTELLIGENCE SERVICE OF THE RUSSIAN FEDERATION) along the circumference and ‘100 ЛЕТ’ (100 YEARS) below, above a laurel branch.

— of the coin ‘100th Anniversary of the Foundation of the Chuvash Autonomous Region’ (Catalogue No. 5111-0424) bears relief images of the emblem of the Chuvash Republic, a girl in a national costume with a shoulder yoke standing under an ancient tree with owls and herons in the branches; in the background there are images of a river and a modern city with administrative, social, cultural and historic buildings laser treated for matte finishing; there are inscriptions: ‘ЧУВАШСКАЯ РЕСПУБЛИКА’ (CHUVASH REPUBLIC) below along the circumference and ‘100 ЛЕТ’ (100 YEARS) on the left in two lines.

— of the coin ‘100th Anniversary of the Foundation of the Republic of Karelia’ (Catalogue No. 5111-0425) bears relief images of the emblem of the Republic of Karelia, a figure of a traditional singer of epic songs — a rune singer, natural landscape, a rabbit and a pair of ducks; images of a national ornament, water surface and buildings of the capital of Karelia, Petrozavodsk, laser treated for matte finishing; there are inscriptions: ‘РЕСПУБЛИКА КАРЕЛИЯ’ (REPUBLIC OF KARELIA) below on the left along the circumference and ‘100 ЛЕТ’ (100 YEARS) on the right in two lines.

— of the coin ‘160th Anniversary of the Bank of Russia’ (Catalogue No. 5111-0426) bears a stylised image of a stairway, rising in a spiral and symbolising development, with a growth chart in the background; there is an inscription on the left in two lines: ‘160 ЛЕТ БАНКУ РОССИИ’ (160 YEARS OF THE BANK OF RUSSIA).

The mintage of the coin is 5.0 thousand pcs;

— of the coin ‘160th Anniversary of the Bank of Russia’ (Catalogue No. 5111-0427) bears a characteristic ‘technological’ ornament (blockchain elements), symbolising the vector of the development of financial technologies; there is an inscription in the middle in two lines: ‘160 ЛЕТ БАНКУ РОССИИ’ (160 YEARS OF THE BANK OF RUSSIA).

The new coins are legal tender of the Russian Federation and their acceptance for all kinds of payments at their face value is mandatory, without any restrictions.
