On issuing of coins of precious and base metals

On September 28, 2015 the Central Bank of the Russian Federation issues commemorative coins of:

Precious metals:

  • A silver proof coin in denomination of 3 Roubles (catalogue number 5111-0301) of the series „The 150th Anniversary of Leningrad Zoo”;
  • A silver proof coin in denomination of 3 Roubles (catalogue number 5111-0302) and a gold proof coin in denomination of 50 Roubles (catalogue number 5216-0107) of the series „The 170th Anniversary of the Russian Geographical Society”;
  • Silver proof coins in denomination of 3 Roubles — „Nizhny Novgorod Kremlin” (catalogue number 5111-0303 and 5111-0304 for a special edition) and „Mosque named after Akhmad Kadyrov” (catalogue number 5111-0305 and 5111-0306 for a special edition) of the series „Symbols of Russia”.

  • In denomination of 5 Roubles — „The 170th Anniversary of the Russian Geographical Society”.

Description of the coins of precious metals:

A silver proof coin in denomination of 3 Roubles (fine metal content 31.1 g, fineness 925/1000, diameter 39.0 mm, mintage 5000 pcs) of the series „The 150th Anniversary of Leningrad Zoo” has the rim raised on both sides of the coin along the circumference. The edge of the coin is corrugated.

The obverse: a relief image of the Emblem of the Bank of Russia — a two-headed eagle with wings down, and a semicircular inscription under it „БАНК РОССИИ” (BANK OF RUSSIA), framed with a circle of beads. Inscriptions along the rim divided by dots indicate the denomination of the coin „ТРИ РУБЛЯ” (THREE ROUBLES) and the year of issue „2015”, between them there is an indication of the metal according to the D.I. Mendeleyev Periodic System of Elements, purity, trade mark of the Saint Petersburg mint and fine precious metal content.

The reverse sideof the coin bears a relief image of a white bear — symbol of Leningrad zoo — with a bear cub against a background of animals — inhabitants of Leningrad zoo and a silhouette of Peter and Paul fortress. There are inscriptions — „150 ЛЕТ” (150 YEARS) in two lines to the left of a bear and „ЛЕНИНГРАДСКИЙ ЗООПАРК” (LENINGRAD ZOO) below.

A silver proof coin in denomination of 3 Roubles (fine metal content 31.1 g, fineness 925/1000, diameter 39.0 mm, mintage 3000 pcs) and a gold proof coin in denomination of 50 Roubles (fine metal content 7.78 g, fineness 999/1000, diameter 22.6 mm, mintage 1000 pcs) of the series „The 170th Anniversary of the Russian Geographical Society” have the rim raised on both sides of the coins along the circumference. The edge of the coins is corrugated.

The obverse: a relief image of the Emblem of the Bank of Russia — a two-headed eagle with wings down, and a semicircular inscription under it „БАНК РОССИИ” (BANK OF RUSSIA), framed with a circle of beads. Inscriptions along the rim divided by dots indicate the denomination of the coins „ТРИ РУБЛЯ” (THREE ROUBLES), „ПЯТЬДЕСЯТ РУБЛЕЙ” (FIFTY ROUBLES) respectively and the year of issue „2015”, between them there is an indication of the metal according to the D.I. Mendeleyev Periodic System of Elements, purity, trade mark of the Moscow mint and fine precious metal content.

The reverse side:

  • of a silver proof coin in denomination of 3 Roubles bears a relief image of a portrait of grand duke Konstantin Nikolayevich in profile. There are inscriptions — „РУССКОЕ ГЕОГРАФИЧЕСКОЕ ОБЩЕСТВО ОСН. в 1845 г.” (RUSSIAN GEOGRAPHICAL SOCIETY EST. IN 1845) along the circumference and „ВЕЛИКИЙ КНЯЗЬ КОНСТАНТИН НИКОЛАЕВИЧ” (GRAND DUKE KONSTANTIN NIKOLAYEVICH) at the bottom on the left;
  • of a gold proof coin in denomination of 50 Roubles depicts a relief image of a portrait of admiral F.P.Litke in profile. There are inscriptions — „РУССКОЕ ГЕОГРАФИЧЕСКОЕ ОБЩЕСТВО ОСН. в 1845 г.” (RUSSIAN GEOGRAPHICAL SOCIETY EST. IN 1845) along the circumference and „Ф.П. ЛИТКЕ” (F.P.LITKE) at the bottom on the right.

The edge of the coins is corrugated.

The obverse: a relief image of the Emblem of the Bank of Russia — a two-headed eagle with wings down, and a semicircular inscription under it „БАНК РОССИИ” (BANK OF RUSSIA), framed with a circle of beads. There are inscriptions along the circumference — „СИМВОЛЫ РОССИИ” (SYMBOLS OF RUSSIA) on top and „НИЖЕГОРОДСКИЙ КРЕМЛЬ” (NIZHNY NOVGOROD KREMLIN) at the bottom;
  • of a silver proof coin „Mosque named after Akhmad Kadyrov” bears a relief image of the Mosque named after Akhmad Kadyrov in Grozny. There are inscriptions along the circumference — „СИМВОЛЫ РОССИИ” (SYMBOLS OF RUSSIA) on top and „МЕЧЕТЬ ИМЕНИ АХМАТА КАДЫРОВА” (MOSQUE NAMED AFTER AKHMAD KADYROV) at the bottom;
  • of a silver proof coin „Mosque named after Akhmad Kadyrov” in a special edition depicts an image of the Mosque named after Akhmad Kadyrov in Grozny performed in colour. There are inscriptions along the circumference — „СИМВОЛЫ РОССИИ” (SYMBOLS OF RUSSIA) on top and „МЕЧЕТЬ ИМЕНИ АХМАТА КАДЫРОВА” (MOSQUE NAMED AFTER AKHMAD KADYROV) at the bottom.

Description of the coin of base metals:

A coin in denomination of 5 Roubles is 25.0 mm in diameter, white in colour and has the rim raised on both sides of the coin along the circumference. The edge of the coin is corrugated.

The obverse: in the center of the disc there is an indication of the face value of the coin „5 РУБЛЕЙ” (5 ROUBLES) in two lines. There is an inscription below — „БАНК РОССИИ” (BANK OF RUSSIA) and the year of issue „2015” under it. On the left and on the right there is a stylized image of a plant branch. In the right part of the disc there is a trademark of a mint.

The reverse side of the coin hasimages of scientific researches and travels attributes against a background of circles of the Earth parallels and meridians. There are inscriptions — „ОСНОВАНО в 1845 г.” (ESTABLISHED IN 1845) below the images and „РУССКОЕ ГЕОГРАФИЧЕСКОЕ ОБЩЕСТВО” (RUSSIAN GEOGRAPHICAL SOCIETY) along the circumference.

The mintage of the coin is 5000000 pcs.

The coins are legal tender of the Russian Federation. They are obligatory for acceptance for all kinds of payments without any restrictions at their face value.
